The Meaning and the Name behind P.A.N.D.O.R.A., Inc.
Marly C. Silverman, the founder of P.A.N.D.O.R.A., is constantly asked “Why the name of P.A.N.D.O.R.A”? In 2001, while she experienced a restless night trying to resolve a crisis over the name for our organization, she fell in the arms of Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams. In her sleep, she dreamed of Pandora and the Greek legend. Upon wakening, she realized the name would fit perfectly with the goals and objectives of P.A.N.D.O.R.A., her dream organization.
As we know from the legend, curiosity caused Pandora to open the jar belonging to her husband. She released every ailment, sorrow and pestilence known to mankind. After Pandora quickly closed the jar, one element was left inside and it was HOPE. Our curiosity prompting us to open Pandora’s Box will benefit many, as we HOPE to find the cure for CFS, FMS and related illnesses. It is a change from the way folks view Pandora’s legend. We have found Hope! We will no longer be implying by opening “Pandora’s box” that we will be faced with challenges without solutions. *The legend also says that Pandora ultimately released HOPE into the world.
